Getting started

From the invite to your first morning of leads. Setup takes about 15 minutes for each member, and there's nothing to install.

1. When it opens, add the Boat to your server

When there’s a spot for you, you’ll get an invite link by email.

  • Someone who manages your Discord server opens the link and picks your server.
  • They pick the channel the Boat posts in: the morning digest, the Friday recap and reminders all go there.
  • They start the server plan in Discord. See Pricing and credits.

2. Each member sets up a profile

Everyone runs /cast start and answers five questions:

  1. What roles are you going after? (Each becomes a job search, so list every title you’d take.)
  2. What’s your niche? (Industries, domains or kinds of company.)
  3. Sum up your experience.
  4. Any deal-breakers? (Location, remote or hybrid, a salary floor.)
  5. What do you want the most help with?

The Boat turns your answers into a written profile that only you see. To change it later, say what to change: /cast update change:add Retail Search to my roles.

3. Send your master resume

/resume file: takes a .pdf, .docx, .txt or .md file. It’s the starting point for every tailored resume, and only you see it.

4. Your first morning

At 4:00 (server time) the Boat searches for everyone’s roles and posts the best matches, each with a fit score. Your top five come with a reason. Missed it? /leads shows your newest leads any time, each with a short id like a1b2c3d4.

5. Work a lead

  1. /deep-dive company: for a short brief on the company.
  2. /tailor lead:<id> for your resume rewritten for that job. Check anything flagged ⚠️ or 🚩 first.
  3. Apply yourself, then log it: /log type:Application sent lead:<id>.

6. Keep it going

  • /board shows the week so far: points, streaks and the shared goal. See The game.
  • The recap posts every Friday at 5pm.
  • Want a nudge? /remind set days:weekdays time:6pm. See Daily reminders.

Log what really happened. The points and the recap only help if they’re honest.
